Makerere University graduation enters day 2
The graduation ceremony which kicked off yesterday will see a total of over 13,500 students graduate from various programs.
The Minister of Education, Janet Museveni, who addressed guests on Monday via zoom challenged the current University Council to raise the standard of Makerere University by equipping students in the fight against societal evils, the fight against sexual perversions, HIV/AIDs, and corruption.
She asked graduands and parents to join her in the fight against moral decadence in society and appealed to the staff, students, and all stakeholders of Makerere University to participate in the campaign code-named “Makerere says no to HIV/AIDS and Corruption.”
Students from the college of education and external studies, as well as agriculture and environmental sciences, will graduate today, Tuesday February 14.
The ceremony will see a total of 13,221 students graduate in different disciplines. Out of these, 6809 (52%) are females and 6412 (48%) males will graduate during the five-day ceremony. Of these, 102 are PhD graduands, 1,378 Master's, and 108 Postgraduate diplomas among others.
Colleges slated to graduate students include: College of Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, School of Law, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Education and External Studies, Business and Management Sciences and College of Computing and Information Sciences.
Others are: Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security, Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences and Makerere University Business School.
This is the second physical graduation ceremony the university is holding after COVID-19 disruption that saw educational institutions conduct their ceremonies virtually. Makerere held its 72rd graduation ceremony in May 2022.
