He added that priority is to be given to Lumumba and Mary Stuart Halls which are completely dilapidated before moving to other halls and the College of Natural Science.

Nawangwe also appealed to the Ministry of Finance to avail the funds needed to renovate the listed halls of residence to improve the status of students.

He made the revelation at the on-going 73rd Makerere University graduation ceremony at Freedom Square.

The ceremony will see a total of 13,221 students graduate in different disciplines. Out of these, 6809 (52%) are females and 6412 (48%) males will graduate during the five-day ceremony. Of these, 102 are PhD graduands, 1,378 Master's, and 108 Postgraduate diplomas among others.

This means more females will graduate this year.

Colleges slated to graduate students include: College of Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, School of Law, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Education and External Studies, Business and Management Sciences and College of Computing and Information Sciences.

Others are: Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security, Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences and Makerere University Business School.

This is the second physical graduation ceremony the university is holding after COVID-19 disruption that saw educational institutions conduct their ceremonies virtually. Makerere held its 72rd graduation ceremony in May 2022.
