Jubilee party to offer university-level courses-Tuju reveals

Plans are underway for the Jubilee party to offer political courses in four local universities.

Confirming the reports, Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju told The Standard that all is set for the initiative which will be the first of its kind in the country with a syllabus already in place.

“We have a syllabus ready. We will be launching it soon. As a party, we feel that it is part of our duty to redefine our politics,” said Tuju.

The courses, focusing on political education and ideals of Jubilee party will be targeting those seeking political offices.

They will first be required to enroll for the courses and obtain a certificate before contesting for the seats.

The Jubilee party Secretary General revealed that this is part of a wider plan to establish a party academy where ideals of the party will be advanced, borrowing heavily from South Africa’s Africa National Congress (ANC)

“We must get ways of instilling some values in leaders through political education,” said Tuju.

Tuju is currently in South Africa on a bench-marking mission and further engagements with ANC.

Last year, Jubilee party announced a partnership with Communist Party of China (CPC) in which party the ruling political party of the People's Republic of China would offer 20 scholarships annually to Jubilee Party.

In January last year, President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted CPC top officials at State House, where it was agreed that Jubilee will take its members to China to learn skills on grassroots mobilization, democracy and party management.

The plan was however criticized with some analysts pointing out that CPC is not the best to mentor Jubilee party citing CPC tight grip on the country as well as how it deals with rebels within its ranks.

“We are ready to deepen collaboration mechanisms with the Jubilee Party,” said CPC deputy director of policy and research officer Wang.
