And on D-Day, it did look initially like it was going to be a disaster.

Looking back, Clever J recalls feeling scared when he started realizing that he might be singing for empty seats.

I remember at about 5 PM, I developed a fever. I was hanging around somewhere near the venue but I was also following the developments on social media,” recounted the singer, real names Gerald Muwonge.

I was also in touch with people on the ground, and looking at the pictures of the empty front seats, I felt weak.”

But the artist, who nowadays claims to have found salvation, says deep inside he felt a level of confidence because his show had been arranged by Jesus Christ.

He felt ready either way; even if it meant singing for two people.

“Not long ago I felt so energetic that I could even sing for cows. So I was ready. I said to myself even if there is no one at Lugogo I will go and sing for Jesus,” he said.

Luckily for him, the numbers did greatly improve at nightfall, and by the time he hit the stage at 10pm, the Lugogo KCCA Grounds was looking alive.

The ‘Binyuma Bitya’ singer says, that he feels immeasurable gratitude to his fans who were there for him, especially those on social media who pushed his music and his concert.

“I cannot thank you all enough. I was supposed to have three shows, but they canceled the one in Entebbe. But it still feels like they did nothing because of how successful the one at Lugogo was." he said.

Even the last concert he had in Mukono, the singer says was a great success and fans were elated to see him even though crowd-puller Alien Skin did not show up.
