How Karamoja Affairs Minister Agnes Nandutu handed self to Police
Several reports thereafter indicated that she had gone missing and her whereabouts unknown.
Speculation was rife that her and other ministers who benefitted from iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region were in hiding for fear of being arrested.
On Monday, police spokesperson Fred Enanga during the Police weekly media briefing confirmed that Nandutu did not show up at CID after being summoned.
“She did not show at CID after being summoned. We appeal to all our witnesses to cooperate with us so that we deal with this issue once and for all,” he said.
Today morning, Nandutu was seen at the CID offices handing herself over to Police. It is still not yet clear why she did not show up when summoned earlier, but what is known is that the scandal has sent a frenzy in Uganda’s political circles.
Yesterday, the Anti-Corruption Court remanded the State Minister for Finance and Economic planning, Amos Lugoloobi, to Luzira following a decision by the judge to make a ruling on his bail application later in the month.
Prosecution alleged that Lugoloobi, who is also the Member Parliament (MP) for Ntenjeru North constituency in Kayunga district, wrongly obtained 700 pre-painted iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region.
The Anti-Corruption Court made a decision to make a final decision on Lugoloobi’s bail hearing on the 20th of April.
Lugoloobi, who is accused of misappropriating iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region, was arrested on Friday, April 14 2023 and held at the Kira Road Police
