How a British man who has lived in UK all his life was nearly deported to Uganda
Kyle Herbert, 22, a Briton who has lived in the UK all his life, was nearly deported to Uganda, an East African country he has no links with.
The 22-year-old was born in Shrewburry, the county town of Shropshire, England, to English parents.
He was shocked when the bungling Home Office threatened to deport him to Uganda on grounds that he "had no lawful basis" to live in the United Kingdom.
Kyle was also threatened with a possible fine of £5,000 fine, imprisonment or removal by force, according to the Daily Mail.
The Briton was sacked from his job after UK Border Agency informed his boss that he was wanted by Home Office for deportation.
The process to clear his name lasted two weeks.
"I explained the situation. I was hysterical. I told him that the idea of me being deported to Uganda was ridiculous," he said.
"It was just ridiculous. Where did they get Uganda from?"
The Home Office later apologized to Herbert saying the letter was an incorrect warning.
In 2006, the UK bungling Home Office was accused of "systematic failures at all levels" and blunders in handling of foreign criminals.
