While addressing the media at their headquarters in Kampala yesterday, the Most. Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of Church of Uganda, called on Ugandan parents to protect their children from the act because it is immoral and ungodly.

He said there is an urgent need to preserve the future generation, adding that religion and cultural practices condemn same sex relationships.

Our sacred books teach that homosexuality and LGBTQ are human weaknesses that must be addressed at a person level through repentance,” Kaziimba said, quoting Leviticus 18:22 which states: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it’s an abomination.”

Kaziimba’s warning comes amidst on-going investigations at Kings College Budo where it is alleged homosexuality activities have been on-going.

Earlier, the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, pledged to support schools in Uganda which are fighting homosexuality.

Addressing the media during the closure of the Senior One selection exercise at Uganda Manufacturers Association show grounds in Lugogo, Museveni said the question of homosexuality in Uganda is too big and can affect societies if not addressed immediately. She said the vice can never be given room for expansion in Uganda.

The issue of sex education is being abused to incorporate negative ideas that do not conform to our culture. Teachers must ensure and be in position to safe guard against such vices; in the event of any challenges, please do not hesitate to contact our offices," she said in a speech that was read by the State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, who represented her.

Members of Parliament (MP) also raised concerns over the increasing cases of homosexuality and lesbianism in schools.

While addressing the Parliament, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, said some schools have been turned into recruitment centres for the gay community.

“These schools are now recruitment centres. Some of these children and their parents are dying in silence. We need the Committee on Education to look into this matter and we find solutions. This cannot go on like this. Some of the boys in a certain school fear moving in the night for fear of being sodomised,” he said.

Charles Bakkabulindi who represents workers in Parliament said some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are involved in the promotion of homosexuality in schools.

These NGOs use teachers in these big schools to recruit the students into these activities. We need to curb this,” he said, adding, “measures need to be taken in order to curtail the growing vice in schools.”
