Property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed and several people displaced after floods ravaged Muhanga Town Council.
Cereals, peas, beans among other items were damaged after numerous stores were flooded.
People have now appealed to the Office of The Prime Minster for assistance.
The area Rukiga Resident District Resident Commissioner Mr Emmy Ngabirano has requested people to make assessment of the magnitude of the loss to help him compile a report to present to the Office of The Prime Minister.
The ravaged small town is located in a valley and the running water from the hills caused rapid floods in the whole area.
“The fact that Muhanga Town Council is located in a valley, running water from nearby hills ended up flooding the whole area. We appeal to local leaders to launch a tree planting campaign to prevent slides and soil erosion,” Ngabirano said.
Uganda Meteorological Centre’s multi-hazard early warning bulletin revealed that conditions in Western and South Western part of the country were not far from average and posed a potential risk to production.
