Uganda Electoral Commission has announced Kassiano Wadri as the winner of Arua Municipality by-election.
He garnered 6,421 votes out of the 16,476 valid votes casts. His closest opponent, NRM candidate Tiperu Nusura, got 4,798 votes. Other 10 candidates shared the remaining votes.
Wadri is currently under detention and faces charges of charges of unlawful possession of firearms and malicious damage to the motor vehicle belonging to the convoy of the president.
He was arrested together with Bobi Wine and other Members of Parliament on Monday in Arua after chaos erupted when his supporters clashed with NRM supporters.
Charges
The newly elected MP of Arua Municipality is expected to appear in a court in Gulu on Thursday.
Police on Wednesday said they recovered a pistol which had 12 rounds of ammunition from Wadri's hotel room in Arua town shortly after his arrest.
Wadri also allegedly attacked and damaged one of President Museveni's vehicles on Monday -- causing damage to its rear glass window.
Victory
Wadri victory is being attributed to the immense popularity Bobi Wine ignited throughout his campaign trail. He becomes yet another candidate to win an election after getting a backing from the Kyadondo East legislator.
Bobi Wine's influence also saw Asuman Basalirwa win the Bugiri municipality parliamentary seat in July this year.
