Buganda Road court on Wednesday declined to accept an application by Dr. Stella Nyanzi seeking the dismissal of criminal charges against her for calling the president a pair of buttocks’ in 2017.
Chief Magistrate James Eremye Mawanda failed to dismiss the charges over of a matter against the outspoken university don which is before the Constitutional Court.
The matter arose from the criminal charges preferred against her.
The magistrate said his hands are tied until the Constitutional Court gives guidance and makes decision on the said matter.
“I want to agree with state that the application be stayed pending disposal and guidance of the Constitutional Court,” Eremye said, adding that “The accused shall continue to report to this court every thirty days for mentioning of this case on the same terms as to bail.”
It’s from here that the furious Dr. Stella Nyanzi expressed her disappointment over her repeated appearance at the court for over a year without anything happening.
“I’ve been coming for the last one year and there has been nothing really happening,” she said.
Dr. Stella Nyanzi was charged with two counts including cyber harassment and offensive communication in 2017 after referring to President Museveni as a ‘pair of buttocks’.
