A court in Kampala has convicted a 22-year-old girl for faking her own kidnap to test her boyfriends love.

Aminah Mirembe has been fined UGX300,000 -- 1-year jail sentence awaits if she fails to pay the fine.
The 22-year-old was convicted after admitting to faking her kidnap with intent to extort about UGX500,000 from her boyfriend last month.
After her arrest, she said she was suspecting that "another woman was interested in her boyfriend".
Kidnaps have been on the rise in Uganda; in just 3 months, police have registered 40 kidnaps -- 20 of them being fake kidnaps.

On Tuesday, women activists camped outside police headquarters in Naguru seeking to meet the Inspector General of Police over lack of conclusive reports into the recent kidnaps and murders of Ugandan women.
