Conservationist Jane Goodall jets in for Ngamba Island's 25th anniversary
The Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary is dedicated to the care of orphaned eastern chimpanzees, that have been rescued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Many of the chimpanzees were rescued from poachers and are unlikely to survive reintroduction to the wild.
Goodall, 89, landed on Sunday evening at Entebbe International Airport and was received by officials from the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the Jane Goodall Institute, and the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Ahead of the commemoration, she is expected to deliver a public lecture at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala tomorrow, Tuesday, August 22, 2023
Today Monday, Goodall who is also a UN peace ambassador will meet First Lady Janet Museveni and the European Union Ambassador.
The 25 anniversary of Ngamba Ngamba Chimpanzee Island is slated for Wednesday evening at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.
Goodall will launch the office of Roots and Shoots at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre commonly known as Entebbe Zoo, before visiting Ngamba Chimpanzee Island on Lake Victoria.
She was last here in 2018 to mark Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary's 20th anniversary.
