Ugandan comedian Charles Kasozi, popularly known as Mariachi, has been detained at Old Kampala Police Station for allegedly assaulting a traffic officer.
The comedian was arrested together with his bodyguard Micheal Bunjo on Saturday night in Mengo, a neighbourhood in Kampala.
He has been charged with four counts of careless driving, obstructing an officer on lawful duty, causing damage to government stores and assault.
Mariachi assaulted a police officer by hitting him with an elbow on the face, according to a police report released last night. The officer was rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment.
He reportedly "verbally insulted and willfully tore the uniform of the officer" after being stopped while driving in one way.
"I pay the tax that pays your salary and just one single phone call can get you dismissed from the force. Get the hell out of my way I have a show to attend to in Masaka," Mariachi said.
On Friday, another traffic officer was knocked down by a careless rider as she directed traffic flow around Bugolobi Junction.
