According to Among, the killing was one of a number of the recent homicides that have left people dead among the populace. She stated that the inquiry is just as important as the steps taken to stop the deaths, which she said are on the rise.

"To regain public safety and confidence, we need polarising and deterrent actions. In addition to Kayunga and other locations, this has also occurred," the Speaker said on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in plenary.

"We need investigations to be carried out," she continued, "and we need to make it very clear to the affected communities that they won't be killed tomorrow."

Unknown attackers attacked Kijonjo Village, Kamwoozi Parish, in Buwunga Sub-county, Masaka District, that tragic day at around 2 a.m., killing five family members.

The deceased included the family head, Emmanuel Muteesasira, 57; his wife, Proscovia Ndagaano, 52; daughter Beatrice Nakalyango, 13; and two grandsons, Shivan Nakasagga, 5, and Robert Kayemba, 2.

The Internal Affairs Minister was also tasked by Among to brief Parliament on security-related concerns voiced by MPs, including the understaffing of police stations across the nation.

Among added, "Truth be told, there aren't many police officers here. I've requested more police officers for my district in numerous letters, but to no avail. Imagine when someone is slain in the middle of the night and the closest police station is 20 kilometres away."

She declared that Parliament is prepared to assist the Uganda Police Force in expanding its ranks, modernising its facilities, establishing new police stations, and acquiring additional patrol vehicles.

In support of the Speaker's assertions, Bukoto County East Member of Parliament (MP) Ronald Kanyike stated that the crime scene in Masaka District is far from the local police station.
