Mohamed was summoned by the Senate’s committee to explain why her ministry had purchased land that already appeared to the government.

One of the first questions she was asked was why the ministry, then under Matiang’i, handled the compensation as an emergency when the two public schools had occupied the land for over thirty years.

“I am not in a position to answer that as I also don’t understand the urgency that was in that case. The school had occupied the land for more than thirty years and I think it would have taken more time to resolve it,” Mohamed said.

The Education CS’s statement excited members with the committee Chairman Moses Kajwang congratulating her for “being candid and not beating around the bush”.

Mohamed further disclosed that she had not held further discussions with Matiang’i to understand why he had handled the compensation process as an urgent matter.

In an indicting statement on the leadership style of her predecessor, the Education CS said that the Ruaraka Land compensation process had failed to take into account of the recommendations made by junior staff who had indicated that the two schools were on public land.

“What I would assure this committee is that one thing that this ministry will not be accused off, under my team, is ignoring concerns raised by our staff,” Mohamed promised.
