The traditional chief of Acholi, Rwot David Onen Acana II, has warned against the cremation of legendary Ugandan singer Geoffrey Oryema who died last week after battling cancer for a long time.
The chief said cremating Oryema's body is against the values of his culture even if though it was his last wish.
Rwot Acana II warned that dispersing of ashes of the deceased might result into a bad omen which shall be "borne by your family and clan".
Not Late?
Rwot's warning comes almost after a week since Oryema died in France where he has been living after escaping the brutal regime of Idi Amin in 1977 following the murder of his father.
Last week on Friday, shortly after his death; sources close to the family told AFP that cremation was Oryema's last wish and it would be granted to him the next day (Saturday, 23rd) at a private ceremony.
The family lawyer on Sunday 24th was quoted by Uganda Radio Network saying the internationally recognised musician was granted his last wish and preparations were underway to bring back the ashes to his ancestral home.
