A ‘weevil’ had infiltrated police - Museveni confesses after sacking IGP

He now says a 'weevil' has been removed

President Museveni has commented about the police for the first time since the sacking of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura and Minister of Security Henry Tumukunde.

President Museveni on Thursday told hundreds of people during Women’s Day celebrations in Mityana District that a 'weevil' which had infiltrated the police has been removed and the government is going to fight battles with the criminals.

“These criminals have always been arrested, but police had been penetrated by a 'weevil' that we have now removed. We’re going to make sure all major towns have eyes every where. We’re going to fight battles with these criminals,” said the president.

The security situation has deteriorated in Uganda as kidnap and murder cases continue to increase.

United States issued travel advisory to its citizens travelling to the East African country over the increased crime rates cautioning them to have a "contingency plan for emergencies and keeping a low profile".

The former IGP Kale Kayihura is known to be President Museveni’s loyal officer who promised to serve him even more for the remaining part of his life not to disappoint the him.

“I thank you for the opportunity you gave me to serve and I promise that for the remaining time of my life, work even more not to disappoint you,” he said in 2017 during a thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate achievements made by his late father.

Gen. Kale Kayihura was sacked on Sunday 4th March and replaced by Okoth Ochola.
