1 dead as machete wielding bandits attack police post

At least one person was killed as police launched a hunt on machete wielding bandits who allegedly attacked a police post in Kabowa.

“A man welding a machete allegedly attacked a police officer and injured him together with a crime preventer. Onlookers gathered and had to be dispersed. In the process, an innocent bystander was hit with a stray bullet and he died,” police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said

The bandits reportedly attacked a police post and injured officers and a crime preventer.

Police are holding one suspect in custody called Rogers Kamya believed to have been part of the group of bandits who attacked the police post.

He was arrested armed with a machete and hammer which he used to injure the officers.

“I got injured when I tried to help the policeman, as Kamya attempted to grab a gun from him,” one of the injured officers said

A few weeks ago, two police officers were attacked and killed by unknown assailants in Kawempe division – they took off with their guns.
