One person has died and two others are nursing severe injuries after a swarm of aggressive bees attacked a routine power maintenance crew in Wakiso District.

The aggressive bees attacked the crew as it cleared the grass.

It is believed that the crew wasn't wearing protective gear because it didn't expect to find a swarm of bees in the grass on assumption that bees are usually in trees.

“We always carry bee suits in anticipation of presence of bees in tree but this time we had not put them on because it was a mere bush,” one of the survivors said.

Uganda’s main electricity distribution company spokesperson Stephen Illungole says the deceased and the injured were not part of their employees and all their overhead crew members around that area are all safe.

“All our overhead crew is very safe. We have confirmed via head count. We commiserate with the family of the deceased and wish the survivors a quick recovery. We shall continue to investigate the incident and the identities of the victims,” Illungole told local media.

The injured are receiving treatment from Kampala International Hospital.
