“Gen Muhoozi did not show any difference. Even if he knew that his father wouldnt touch him; he still had the responsibility to show that he was different. Even though the president was breaking the law, Muhoozi as a trained soldier at the rank of general was expected to say no; if I want to be a politician I have to remove the military uniform .”
Section 99, of the UPDF Act 2005, states that a serving officer or militant who deserves to seek political office shall first resign or retire from the Defence Forces according to regulations made by the minister. Article 208 (2) of the Constitution also prohibits members of the armed forces from participating in partisan activities.
However, Gen Muhoozi caused a lot of discord in the military for the most part of last year when he started conducting political rallies and making politically charged comments online.
On multiple occasions, the president’s son also announced his plans to contest in the upcoming presidential elections in 2026.
Gen Muntu however, believes that Muhoozi’s political aspirations are as good as dead at the moment.
This, he says, is the reason the President appointed him Chief of Defence Forces earlier this month.
