2 robbers killed in Police raid, 2 guns recovered

Police in Otuke and Busia districts have carried out two separate deadly operations, where they put two notorious robbers out of action during a gunfire exchange and recovered two guns.

The anti-robbery team in Busia, on Monday, September 25, 2023, at around 2:30 p.m., pursued a notorious robber, identified as Kudu Ashraf, alias Mr. X, after an armed robbery where he shot and injured Najjuko Prossy, a money exchange dealer at Arubaine Market.

Police swiftly responded and surrounded the robber at Maweru East “B” in Busia district. He was fatally wounded during a fire exchange. A short machine gun with 16 rounds, cash (Kenyan sh 21 and 61 million), and phones were all recovered pending handover to the victim. The victim was also rushed to Busia HC IV for treatment.

In Otuke district, the Joint Anti-Robbery Team of the Police and UPDF responded to an armed robbery at Agweng Cell, Owinyo Ward, on Tuesday, September 20, 2023, at around 9 p.m. and put out of action one Ouni Norman Kaunda, also a notorious robber, who was also wanted for theft of a gun. The police recovered an SMG; with six rounds, 24 bullets were missing.

In a related development, police in Greater Masaka and Kyotera districts have in custody two suspects for the aggravated torture and murder of a 13-year-old male juvenile, identified as Jjuuko Patrick, whom they accused of theft of money from Kagambo’s farm, at Kidda LC1 village, Kabira subcounty, Kyotera district, on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

The suspects, led by Tabatina Frank, tortured the victim at the farm and thereafter dragged him to the Kasambya trading centre, where they further tortured him. The victim's condition worsened, and he was rushed to God's Able Clinic, where he died the following day due to internal bleeding. The two suspects in custody include Kamugisha Godfrey and Kamia Muhammad. Efforts are in place to have Tabatina Frank, the ring leader, arrested.
