What Islam says about Sasha Braighton's 'arrogant' statement about Jajja Ichuli

Sasha Braighton joined thousands of people mourning the loss of Ibrahim Tusubira popularly known as Isma Olaxess or Jajja Ichuli. She sent her condolences in the form of forgiveness. This did not sit well with some people. However, since the deceased was Muslim, Braighton's statement is permitted.

Some people saw this as an arrogant statement responding to Braighton by questioning her authority "to forgive the dead".

Braighton replied to the harsh remarks saying the public should hold "people like Ichuli" accountable for hurling negative comments towards "celebrities". She added that it's not fair for the public to attack her and make her a villain when tragedy strikes their attackers.

She accused the public of giving leeway to negative behaviour by such public figures and turning on their victims later.

"I wish u always advise these people when u see them abusing us in public but all u do is praise them and when such situations come we become the victims😔," she noted.

A few comments told her that is better to forgive someone when they are still alive instead of waiting for their demise to proclaim such statements.

However, according to some Muslim comments, "Only the Muslims and deceased himself knows the importance of that "I forgive u". It's very important to him now than ever. May Allah grant him paradise 🙏🙏."

Although some people argued that forgiveness after death is futile, according to Sheikh Saalim Al-Azhari of Islamic Relief, "Asking Allah (SWT) for forgiveness for the deceased, for protection from the grave and humiliation of the Day Of Judgement, and for Jannah (heaven) are common things to ask for when someone has passed away."

Ichuli was a social media personality and leader of bloggers in Uganda. He was murdered on May 6, 2023. Investigations into his passing are underway according to police.
