The celebrated poetry session, running weekly, has built a reputation for nurturing some of the finest poets and spoken word artists in the region. Since 2012, the event has provided a platform for literature enthusiasts to showcase their talents.
On Monday, December 11, 2023, poetry and spoken word art lovers gathered at the Kampala Serena Hotel, Victoria Hall, to celebrate the eleventh anniversary of Kwivuga, the Odyssey Poetry Session.

After 11 years, the brand has grown, and new sponsors contributed to a significant celebration for the event's milestone. The increased support indicates a promising future for the Kwivuga series.
The commitment to strengthening the creative industry extends beyond borders, with a focus on supporting art. The love for art has inspired the creation of appealing initiatives like the Art Experience, launched in May. These initiatives aim to help both established and upcoming artists exhibit their works and advance their careers.
For some time, efforts have been directed at supporting the arts by creating platforms for artists to showcase their talent and grow their careers as art professionals. This commitment is now being extended to Uganda.

By sponsoring this edition of The Odyssey Kwivuga, we are reaffirming our commitment to promoting the arts, with the intention of growing the creative economy in Uganda. We are also not solely focused on the present but we want to inspire the next generation of artists too," said Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M bank who were the main sponsors for this year's edition.
In Kenya, I&M Bank has invested over Ksh120m from different art piece collections and partnerships.
This development is significant for Uganda's arts industry stakeholders, given the immense talent evident during the anniversary celebration. Performances by Jason Ntaro, Babaluku, Ngobi Kagayi, Roshan Karmali, Ruyonga, The Mith, Wonder JR, and Lillian Mbabazi captivated the audience, making the event a memorable one.
Nunu Umuringa Butare, the Kwivuga founder, expressed gratitude to poetry and spoken word art lovers for the 11-year journey. The emotional moment came when she invited her teenage son and daughter on stage, revealing they were the reason she pursued the dream of turning Kwivuga into a significant event.
The event concluded a few minutes before midnight, leaving attendees with remarkable memories.
