Rose and her husband Wu Jianyun last night addressed the rumors, which were partly fueled by their four-week absence online.
The couple described as “hurtful” and “troubling,” the negative reports that came out in Chinese media speculating about their marriage.
“Some people reported that we had divorced,” said Rose with her signature bashful smile in a video posted Thursday night.
“But we are still doing quite well; don't believe what those online trolls are saying.”
Rumors about the famous couple started picking up in August this year when they together with their son Anzai travelled for a short holiday in Uganda.
Her husband Wu had to travel back a few weeks later with their son, who had to go back to school in early September.
Rose, however, elected to stay back a while longer to take care of her sick sister and also help process travel documents to China for her mother.
In China, however, speculations about “marital problems” started spreading in the media.
“African bride Rose: suspected marital problems with husband,” went one of the headlines.
Another outlet wrote; “Change profile picture sparks discussion” while another went, “Whereabouts mysterious since returning to China” and another, “Rose and Wu Jianyun quarrel on live stream.”
One of the media outlets reportedly wrote that when she eventually went back to China, her husband was not happy to receive her at the airport.
But in his clarification yesterday, Mr Wu said he was only anxious at the airport because of the cameras he found.
“Such things (false media reports) really trouble us. We conduct ourselves honestly so we have nothing to hide or fear. I believe that time will explain everything,” he said.
Commenting on why they had disappeared recently and not posted anything on their social media channels, Rose explained that they had traveled to Beijing to take part in rehearsals for the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, where they will be performing.
