The Blu 3 star wonders how the Lugbara tribe came to be so unpopular like nothing good comes from their region.
My tribe is despised - Jackie Chandiru
Singer Jackie Chandru does not like how her tribemates are treated in Uganda.

She says, throughout her music career, she was always disadvantaged by the mere fact that she is a Lugbara or Mulugwala as they are better known in the Bantu region
“There came a time when the word “Mulugwala” was an insult in this city. Even up to now, every bad thing is linked to my people,” Chandiru said.
“When I was in Blu 3, no one ever acknowledged my dad because he is a Mulugwala, They only connected with my mother who is a Muganda.”
This, she says, was the reason she wrote her 2010 hit song “Agassi” after the girl group disbanded.
“When we went solo, I decided to do something different because I wanted people to know that something good can come from up there because all they know us for is things like Joseph Kony.”
The song, however, backfired badly and almost tanked her whole career.
“People immediately chased me out of Kampala. They told me, ‘You can't sing anymore, get your things and go back to your people,’” she recalled.
Thankfully, the song became an instant hit in her region and eventually crawled its way to national popularity.
Chandiru, who went through a rough episode of struggle with drug addiction, has turned the corner and is set for a grand reunion with her former bandmates, Cindy Sanyu and Lilian Mbabazi.
Their maiden reunion concert is scheduled for June 22nd, 2024, at the Sheraton Kampala Gardens.
