Hajat Sharifah Buzeki has been appointed by President Yoweri Museveni as the Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Her appointment follows a series of leadership changes in KCCA, aimed at revitalising the institution after the tragic Kiteezi landfill collapse in August 2024.

Buzeki’s extensive experience in public service and human resource management positions her as a strategic choice for the role.

A Seasoned Human Resource Practitioner

Sharifah Buzeki brings over 13 years of professional experience in human resource management, institutional development, and performance management.

She has served in both Local and Central Government settings, showcasing her expertise in auditing, inspection, supervisory regimes, and managing for results.

Until her appointment to KCCA, Buzeki was the Assistant Commissioner of Human Resource Management in the Inspection Department of the Ministry of Public Service.

In this role, she led the design and implementation of inspection programmes, supported Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in integrating Results-Oriented Management (ROM) and Output-Oriented Budgeting (OOB), and helped develop Client Charters for improved service delivery standards.

Academic Achievements and Skills

Buzeki holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from the Islamic University in Uganda.

She has acquired various professional certifications in Conflict Management, Leadership and Change Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Facilitation Skills, among others.

A big taske awaits Buzeki as she inherits an institution undergoing scrutiny and rebuilding.

Her appointment comes in the wake of the dismissal of her predecessor, Dorothy Kisaka, and other senior officials following allegations of negligence related to the Kiteezi landfill tragedy.

Her leadership will be crucial in addressing the challenges faced by KCCA, including restoring public confidence, ensuring safety, and improving urban management.
