Galiwango died Monday morning at Nairobi Hospital where he had been admitted.
The late was the husband to Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament, Connie Nakayeze Galiwango.
President Museveni appointed Galiwango as the High Commissioner to Kenya in October 2020.
Galiwango was also the former long serving director of finance and administration at the NRM secretariat at the time of his ambassadorial appointment.
Medina Naham, the NRM party chairperson of Koboko District, replaced him at the secretariat.
The cause of his death is yet to be communicated by the government.
The Ministry of Fofreign Affairs confirmed Galiwango’s death, saying burial arrangements will be communicated.
Besides being Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya and Sychelles, he has been Uganda’s permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Program and UN-HABITAT.
Eulogising the deceased, Vision Group CEO Don Wanyama who hails from the same area as the late Galiwango said the region is “weaker with a key pillar bent”.
“Rest well Hajj Hassan Galiwango. A colossus who best bestrode the Eastern and entire Uganda landscape in education, politics, and business. We, the people of Nakaloke, Mbale, are weaker with a key pillar bent. Be kindly received by your ancestors. Condolences to family and friends.”
