The hearing could not go on after prosecution led by Richard Birivumbuka informed Court that they were not ready to proceed and asked for another date.
The trial judge adjourned the case to 13th and 14th February 2023 for hearing of the said application.
The two were remanded on charges of murder, terrorism, and attempted murder relating to the spate of machete murders that rocked the Greater Masaka region in 2021.
Prosecution alleges that both MPs planned the murders at Happy Boys, Kalenda, and Kayanja Estate House in Kampala.
The legislators are battling capital offences which attract a maximum sentence of death upon conviction.
This development comes at the backdrop of the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, 's stoppage by Police from visiting the ailing Ssewanyana in hospital.
Ssewanayana was reportedly rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital in a poor medical condition.
The Makindye West MP is said to have developed lung complications, and his NUP counterparts say he requires sepcialised treatment.
“We visited our comrade Ssewanayana but were stopped from seeing him by Police. We have been told he is in a critical medical condition that would need specialised treatment,” Kyagulanyi said.
Both legislators have been on remand for now more than a year. Efforts to get them bail by their lawyers have been futile.
Opposition members have severally accused the Government of not creating a favourable environment for political participation. They say Government has which hunted them on several occasions.
