The Uganda Police Force is actively investigating the reported disappearance and subsequent reappearance of Charles Muvawala Bukenya, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
According to a statement released by Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke on Monday, March 10, 2025, the incident began in the early hours of March 5, 2025.
Muvawala's driver, identified as Mr. Businge, reported to Old Kampala Police that his employer had gone missing around 1:00 am on that day.
Businge recounted that Muvawala had summoned him to Happy Boys bar in Nakulabye, where he was utilizing the sauna facilities. The two remained at the establishment until approximately 1:00 am, after which Muvawala informed Businge of his intention to visit an Equity Bank ATM across the road for a transaction.
After a period without communication, Businge attempted to contact Muvawala, but his calls went unanswered. Subsequently, he received a text message from Muvawala stating that he had been abducted. In response, Old Kampala Police initiated an investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed CCTV footage showing Muvawala exiting the bar and engaging briefly with unidentified individuals before departing on a motorcycle to an unknown destination.
On the evening of March 7, 2025, Muvawala's brother informed the police that Muvawala had been found in Buliisa District. When police sought further details from Businge regarding these developments, he indicated that he would consult with the NUP's Secretary General and Deputy Spokesperson before providing more information.
Police Spokesperson Rusoke emphasised the importance of Businge's cooperation in the ongoing investigation, stating, "We call upon him to come over and aid in our investigations."
The Uganda Police Force remains committed to thoroughly investigating the alleged kidnapping to its logical conclusion.
