President Yoweri Museveni arrived in South Sudan today, following an invitation from President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
In a post on X, Museveni said he was eager to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and boost cooperation between the two nations.
The visit comes at a time when tensions are rising between President Kiir and his First Vice President, Dr Riek Machar, who is under house arrest. South Sudan’s government has accused Machar of plotting a rebellion aimed at destabilising the country.

Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Oboth, informed parliament that on March 10, President Kiir urgently sought military assistance from Museveni to help prevent a security crisis. In response, Uganda’s People’s Defence Force (UPDF) was deployed for a peace enforcement mission.
This move is in line with Uganda's principles of patriotism, nationalism, and Pan-Africanism.
Meanwhile, online reports highlight that the situation in South Sudan remains tense, with fears of further unrest as political rivalries intensify. President Museveni's visit is seen as critical in both reinforcing ties and contributing to regional peace efforts.
