The Premier spoke out for the first time about the alleged brewing tension in the Royal Family, blaming it on enemies of the Kingdom.

Questions about the relationship between the Queen and the Premier together with the entire Kingdom administration under him started swirling after Mayiga skipped the launch of Nnabagereka's best selling memoir in March this year.

The queen’s autobiography, which chronicles her childhood, her relations with the King and her reign’s work, was launched on March 23, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, in the absence of representatives from Buganda Kingdom or the Kabaka’s family.

Speaking in his weekly press address on Monday, May 8th at Bulange, Mayiga blamed the rumors about him and the queen on ‘ingrates.’

I cannot prevent those who want to speak from speaking their mind. I think there are always people who are ungrateful. There are always people who will never appreciate what you are doing,” he said.

Mayiga also laughed off those reading too much into his absence at the book launch, saying it was only because he was on official leave.

All the activities of the Nabagereka are well known by the Government of the Kabaka, but people will want to pick on the small things. They are saying I didn't show up for the book launch, yet you know that when I am on leave, I cannot attend any function.”

Days after the launch, Noah Kiyimba, the Kingdom spokesperson and information minister, came out to clarify about the Premier’s absence, confirming that he was indeed away on leave.

Meanwhile, Mayiga took time to rebuke social media users who have been on his case about Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s health.

These, he said, were using the monarch’s health to derail the kingdom’s works.

They know that I cannot do that, (comment on the king’s health on social media), so they want to come and distract us from the programs we are carrying out,” he said.

I know these people; some of them have got ill parents, but they never talk about them. How do you expect me to stand on a platform and start talking about Kabaka's health? I am not his doctor in any case.”

Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda at a recent function, accused some people of cherry-picking her book’s content with the intention of misleading the masses.
