Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced plans to petition the courts of law over the recent Kawempe North by-election results.

While addressing the press in Kampala, party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat noted that they will be embarking on a court process to demand the costs incurred during the election exercise for their candidate.

“The Electoral Commission must be brought to account for the terrible by-election that they should have managed better,” he said

“Having previously participated in elections in Kawempe North, we affirm that this result can never be a reflection of our strength in this particular constituency and believe that this could have been caused by the confusion created by the military in some polling stations including those whose votes never got to be counted. We shall never get to know our accurate tally in this election."

Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, is currently representing the country at the BRICS Foreign Minister's Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which kicked off on Monday, April 28 and ends today, April 29.
The two leaders shared perspectives on key bilateral and international matters of mutual interest.

Amuriat noted that their candidate for parish councillor Kazo-Angola Central was disenfranchised as ballot boxes were destroyed.

“Mr. Ssebunya Sharif, our candidate for Councilor Kazo-Angola central will never get to know how many votes he got because his area is one of those whose ballot boxes and papers were destroyed,” he said.

FDC candidate for legislative role Sadat Mukiibi, alias Aganaga,  garnered only 239 of the 27,596 votes cast in the election held to replace the late Muhammad Ssegirinya.

The seat was won by the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Luyimbazi Nalukoola, who secured 17,764 votes.

The NRM has also announced plans to petition the results.
