Former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Mrs Dothorty Kisaka was emotional on Tuesday as she narrated the events that marked the end of her tenure at the Authority.

Speaking at the launch of her new book at the Kampala Sheraton, Kasaka broke down in tears, revealing how her life was turned upside down by the tragic collapse of the Kiteezi landfill in August last year.

“Seven months ago, my life changed. But seven months later, it's a brand new day. It's a day of new beginnings,” she said in tears.

Following the tragedy, which caused the death of over 35 people, the former City Authority head was imprisoned along with her then deputy, Eng. David Luyimbazi, and Director of Public Health and Environment, Dr. Daniel Okello, on charge of manslaughter,  causing death or harm by rash or negligent act.

The incident, she said, happened at around 3:20 am on Wednesday, shortly after she arrived home from covering the weekly UNMF Jam Session in Makindye.

In prison, Kasaka narrated that she received a lot of love from her friends, supporters, work colleagues and church members.

“I want to thank my brothers and sisters for visiting me in that place during that very difficult time,” she said.

“I got so many visitors in that place. There were hundreds…you would think I had spent the whole year. They included ministers, Prime Ministers, Archbishops and the entire body of Christ.

"One of the inmates asked why I had brought all my fame to prison.”

Her new book, titled “Lead The Shift: The 7 Hills City Explosion” captures her four-year tenure and experience at the helm of KCCA, and the impact and transformation of the “7 Hills group” of the two groups charged with cleaning Kampala.

The book launch was graced by a number of top dignitaries including former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, the current KCCA ED, Hajjat Sharifah Muzeki among others.
