Prominent Ugandan media personality and sports administrator Cedric Babu Ndilima is currently in intensive care after being diagnosed with severe heart failure.

His condition has rapidly deteriorated, pushing doctors to recommend a heart transplant as his only chance of survival.

However, the life-saving procedure can only be performed abroad, prompting an urgent need to evacuate Cedric to London for specialised treatment.

In response to this medical emergency, family, friends, and supporters have launched a fundraising campaign aiming to raise £300,000 to cover the cost of the heart transplant and related expenses.

The GoFundMe appeal describes Cedric as “our father, brother, son, uncle, friend, and bright light,” appealing for donations of any size to help give him a second chance at life.

Supporters unable to contribute financially are encouraged to share the campaign widely to increase its reach.

A Sudden Collapse Abroad Sparks Medical Crisis

Cedric’s health crisis began in early May when he collapsed while attending a tennis tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, where he had accompanied his son, Cillian Asante Ndilima, a promising young tennis star.

He was immediately airlifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and diagnosed with a serious heart condition.

Although no official statement has been released by the family, it is understood that preparations were being made to transfer Cedric to India for specialised medical care.

A Legacy in Sports, Media, and Public Life

Cedric Babu is a well-known figure in Uganda, celebrated not only for his media work—hosting the popular “Cedric Live Show” on UBC and producing acclaimed local drama Beneath the Lies—but also for his contributions to sports as a former Davis Cup player and President of the Uganda Tennis Association.

In 2021 he embarked on an unsuccessful parliamentary bid for Kampala Central under the ruling NRM party.

He comes from a distinguished family background. His father, Francis Babu, was a government minister, and his mother, Olive Zaitun Kigongo, is a prominent businesswoman and CEO of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI), the country’s leading private sector organisation.

Currently, Cedric has been dedicating much of his time to supporting his son Cillian’s burgeoning tennis career, with the young athlete training at the prestigious Evert Tennis Academy in the United States.
