NUP President Bobi Wine has reached out to elders and opinion leaders in the western Ankole subregion, appealing to them to speak out against the acts of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Bobi Wine said he and fellow leaders in the NUP are hoping that the Ankole leaders can raise their voices against what he called “immoral and tribalistic” actions of the CDF and First Son.

All that Muhoozi is doing is sowing hatred and divisionism, and sadly, he does it in the name of our brothers, the Banyankole.

That is why my colleagues and I have written to the elders in the Ankole region, just in case they have not seen it. We wish to hear their voice.

We want to hear if they are comfortable and at peace with what is going on; whether they won't raise their voices before it is too late because what is being done is putting us on a trajectory to a horrible place.

The genocide in Rwanda started with just words and actions that demeaned and dehumanised other people. Museveni‘s son is trying to pit the Banyankole against the rest of the Ugandans.

Eddy Mutwe's ordeal

Bobi Wine was speaking in light of Gen Muhoozi’s recent social media posts in which he claimed to have locked up the NUP leader’s bodyguard, Eddy Mutwe, to teach him the Runyankole language.

Mutwe was abducted over a week ago and held in detention, where he was badly tortured.

Gen Muhoozi last week shocked the nation when he shared an image of the tortured Mutwe with his head shaved.

Mutwe was released from captivity on Monday and taken to court in Masaka, where he was charged, among others, with aggravated robbery.
