Ugandan singer Nina Roz has called on fellow musicians to actively participate in the political arena, stating that it is essential for artists to use their platform to address societal issues.
The alluring songstress, known for hits like Billboard Kipande, says musicians have a unique ability to raise the voices of the people and bring attention to important issues.
She believes that by joining the political struggle, artists can influence change and represent the concerns of the common person.
“If you are a musician who is just singing and doing nothing else, you are lost,” she stated. “You need to reach a point where you speak to and for the people and stand for those who have put you where you are.”

Musicians Have a Unique Power to Influence Change
The Sirubala singer argued that musicians are “a special breed of people” with the power to command attention, and that if they can capture the public’s attention through their music, they can do the same when advocating for political and social causes.
Musicians can raise people’s voices and concerns to the right offices.
I genuinely think that all fans would want to see their favourite musicians joining the political struggle. It is a way of giving back to the fans by showing that we are with them in trying to address their problems.
If we keep quiet, we are being selfish. It’s like saying everything in the country is okay.
Nina Roz’s Political Ambitions for 2026
Last year, Nina Roz confirmed her decision to run for Parliament in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The singer plans to represent Sembabule district, her home area, under the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
She has been vocal about her desire for change in Uganda, stating, “I joined the struggle to seek change because, in all the years I have lived, I have never seen change in my country.”
Nina Roz, who identifies with Bobi Wine’s generation, views her candidacy as a way to give back to the people who have supported her music career.
“I want to be the voice to the voiceless,” she said, adding that her aim is to fight for the rights of ordinary Ugandans and make a meaningful impact in her community.
Sembabule, which has five constituencies, currently has representation from both the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the opposition.
