Ugandan singer Ykee Benda, real name Wycliff Tugume, has revealed that he is cutting back on nightlife, attributing this change to his faith and evolving priorities.

The artist shared in a televised interview that he is a devout born-again Christian and an active member of Phaneroo Ministries, under the leadership of Apostle Grace Lubega.

"I hardly go to bars these days. My nightlife is dwindling rapidly. I only go when it is absolutely necessary. I am getting old, I think," Ykee Benda remarked.

He explained that while night outings were once an essential part of his music career, the current digital age has made it possible to promote music without being physically present in entertainment spots.

Faith Over Nightlife

Ykee Benda's spiritual journey he said, influenced his lifestyle choices.

Although he acknowledges that bars were once a hub for pushing music, he now finds online platforms like TikTok, radio, and TV more effective.

"I don’t need to push my music in bars. We are already doing that on platforms like TikTok. It is also playing on radios and TVs. In bars, my DJ friends are there playing my songs, so I don’t need to be there," he stated.

His commitment to his faith keeps him engaged with the Phaneroo Ministries, where he is a regular congregant. Though work commitments sometimes prevent him from attending midweek services, he ensures he is present every Sunday.

A Different Perspective on Women in Church

During the interview, Ykee Benda also addressed the common trend of young men attending church in search of romantic connections.

While he acknowledged that some men go to church looking for women, he made it clear that he is not one of them.

"I think it is understandable because if you see a beautiful girl down on her knees praying, she will always be more attractive than a beautiful girl who is in a bar blowing on a shisha pipe," he commented.
