Naluswa says she has shouldered alone the burden of getting her children through school, after her husband plugged all financial support to the family.
In their divorce case filed by Bugingo back in 2019, she says, she raised a separate issue of school fees for her children, and that the magistrate made a ruling on it, which was however, defied by the pastor up to now.
“In the hearing of the case, I raised the issue of school fees because he had stopped paying fees and giving us other financial support. I told the court that the kids are not part of our fight and need to carry on with studies,” Naluswa said in a televised interview this week.
The court ruled that Bugingo did not have to pay fees for the older children who were adults, but that he had to pay for the youngest.
The two older children were aged 19, and 21 and were both at university.
“The court decided that he had to pay for the youngest one who is still underage, but that fees support never came,” she said.
“That is why I keep telling women that you have to stand for your kids. We eventually gave up on his providence and God is going to be our provider.”
Bugingo sired three daughters (Doreen, Winnie and Jennifer) and a son (Isaac) with Naluswa.
In an earlier interview, she revealed that her eldest daughter Winnie Treasure Bugingo, who in February this year graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering from the U.K. -- wanted "about Shs. 140 million" a year for her studies, and that she paid it alone.
Naluswa, parted ways with Bugingo, with whom they had been for 29 years, before he left her for Susan Makula.
Naluswa however, has refused to officially device Bugingo.
In this week's interview, she explained why.
“It is easy to criticize me but I cannot divorce him because of that biblical vow I took before God,” she said.
“Besides, we are leaders. If I do something wrong, young people will follow in my footsteps; then what will happen to other marriages?”
“The challenge we have as leaders is that we get weighed against what we teach others. People will see that you are not moving in accordance with the bible you are teaching,” she added.
Naluswa still wears her wedding ring.
