Nubian Li: How I met Bobi Wine

When he was in O-Level at St. Henry's College Kitovu in Masaka, Nubian Li, real name Ali Bukeni, teamed up with a group of friends to form a singing group called Nubian Squad.

Their friendship is one of the longstanding in the music industry and they met through music.

When he was in O-Level at St. Henry's College Kitovu in Masaka, Li, real name Ali Bukeni, teamed up with a group of friends to form a singing group called Nubian Squad.

The group stuck together until they completed university and some of the members left the country and they had to disband it.

The group started composing songs and they would also go to different places to participate in shows like karaoke.

It's during these tours that Nubian Li got to meet Bobi Wine.

Their relationship grew stronger when Nubian Squad broke up and he started spending more time with the group Bobi Wine used to hang out with.

One day, Li said while appearing on NTV Uganda's Mwasuze Mutya, Wine invited him to the studio and they sang their first song titled Aniyaleta Okwagala.

They followed it up with Adam Ne Kaawa which became a big hit. It was produced by Tony Houls and Magic Washington at Dream Studios, which is owned by Bobi Wine's brother Eddie Yawe

Nubian Li, real name Ali Bukeni was born to a Nubian father and his mom is a Muganda.

Born on August 4, 1983, in Wakiso district and grew up in Mengo and Lweza in a family that loved music. He went to Shimoni Demonstration School, St Henry's College Kitovu, Bishop Sisto Mazzoldi S.S. Lweza and Makerere University (bachelor of commerce).

He started singing in O-Level after forming Nubian Squad with friends at school. The squad stayed together during shows and karaoke until they dissolved the group after university and some members left the country.

He learnt to play the guitar while at university and it was during tours with the squad that he met Bobi Wine and the likes of Mr. Parrot and Toolman.

After his group was disbanded, he started hanging out with the Bobi Wine's and one day they hit studio to record their first song titled Aniyaleta Okwagala, which was followed by Adam Ne Kaawa.
