Minister Betty Amongi appoints new NSSF Board of Directors

Dr. David Ogong has been named the new Chairperson, replacing Dr. Peter Kimbowa, whose 3-year tenure concluded on the same date. Ramathan Ggoobi, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, has also joined the Board, succeeding Patrick Ocailap.

In addition, Richard Bigirwa has been appointed as a workers’ representative under the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU), replacing Lwabayi Mudiba Hassan. The Minister reappointed Aggrey David Kibenge, representing the Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development, while Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha and Annet Mulindwa Nakawunde have been reappointed to represent employers under the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE).

Other members include Dr. Sam Lyomoki and Penninah Tukamwesiga, representing workers under the Confederation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU), and Annet Birungi, representing workers under NOTU. Patrick Ayota, NSSF's Managing Director, will continue serving as an executive member of the Board.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Amongi urged the new Board to adhere to corporate governance principles and ensure the growth and profitability of the Fund. She highlighted Section 4 (4) of the NSSF Act, reminding the Board of its responsibility to secure and manage the Fund for the benefit of workers and the nation.

Dr. Ogong, the newly appointed Chairperson, pledged to maintain the Fund’s exemplary performance and ensure the security of members' savings. He emphasized teamwork and a commitment to achieving the Fund's long-term strategies, including Vision 2035.

Patrick Ayota, NSSF's Managing Director, welcomed the appointments, noting that the blend of new and reappointed members would bring both fresh experience and continuity as the Board transitions from its 12th to 13th iteration.
