Opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye is the recent user to be affected by the ongoing Twitter purge against fake followers and suspicious accounts.
The four time presidential candidate raised a red flag against the social media platform saying he had confirmed that "a hacker is systematically deleting my Twitter followers, especially, the Uganda-based ones. I am consulting on how to fix it. We leave in MAFIAland!".
Twitter Audit, a service that can estimates the percentage of an account's fake and genuine followers, estimates that Mr. Besigye has more than 40,000 fake followers.
Last year, the 280-character platform started a swift crackdown against fake followers and accounts in a move aimed at reducing malicious activity.
The service has been intense of identifying suspicious account behaviour that violate their policies -- it recently made changes to its API impacting on how publishers share content across multiple accoutnts.
