Waititu changes tune on Kiambu's budget woes and drags Kabogo in scandal

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu disowned the mysterious Ksh2.5 billion expenditures incurred by his county.

Waititu claimed that the allocation could have been ‘sneaked’ into the financial accounts of the Kiambu County Government documents by officers in the Auditor-General’s office.

It emerged Thursday that Mr Waititu’s administration had allocated Ksh973 million for coordination of State House functions and actually went ahead to spend Sh902 million in the year under review.

Another Ksh58 million was spent on “South Sudan peace process” and Ksh804 million for free primary education even though it is a function of the national government.

Blaming politicians

After failing to convince the nation on how the Kiambu County funds were used, Waititu sensationally claimed that the allocations could have been sneaked in by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi to tarnish his name and that of his administration.

He changed tune again on Thursday night during an interview where he pointed an accusing finger at his predecessor William Kabogo.

Waititu claimed that the report in question pointed to a budget that was prepared for the 2017/18 financial year before he took office.

"It is actually not us who did this budget it was done by the previous government under)governor Kabogo,” Waititu stated

On Wednesday, the Senate County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC) ordered the Auditor-General Edward Ouko to carry out the special audit and report back to it.
