Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has clarified on the incident that happened near Mageta and Huma Islands in Lake Victoria where 3 Kenyan police officers where arrested by military soldiers.
Brig. Richard Karemire, the UPDF spokesperson, exclusively told Pulse Live Uganda that Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement team arrested the three Kenyan Local Administration police officers on Ugandan waters.
The names of arrested police officers are Senior Police Constable Ondora Abel, PC Kamande Amos, PC Njue John.
The military spokesperson also says the arrangements to hand over the arrested Kenyan officers to the Commissioner of Siaya County are underway.
Reports indicate that the officers were rounded up together with several Kenyan fishermen found catching fish in Ugandan waters.
Earlier, the Nyanza Regional Commissioner was expected to visit the area and resolve the impasse.
This is the second such high-profile detention by Ugandan authorities guarding Lake Victoria.
