Stella Nyanzi refuses bail, wants Museveni in court as witness
Stella Nyanzi, one Ugandas most controversial academics, refused to submit her bail application on Friday as earlier expected.
Nyanzi's decision comes as a shock after spending a week in detention for allegedly abusing President Museveni's late mother on Facebook.
State-owned newspaper, The New Vision, reports that the Makerere University professor turned down the bail application because she wants Museveni to appear in court and be the 1st witness in the case.
"Police should complete investigations in the shortest time possible and also bring President Museveni to face court and explain how he was offended by my posts," local media quotes Nyanzi.
She reportedly told authorities that she wants to go back to Luzira prison to teach fellow prisoners on how to use Facebook.
In 2017, the controversial academic called Museveni "a pair of buttocks" -- costing her position at the country's oldest university.
Nyanzi faces charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication -- which she denied.
She was further remanded to Luzira Prison until November 22 when she will appear in court for further mention.
