Ugandan singer Angella Katatumba has spoken out after Pakistani authorities in Nairobi, Kenya, issued a letter accusing her of illegally running a fake consulate in Kampala, Uganda.
Her father Boney Katatumba served as Uganda's Honorary Consul for the south Asian country up to his death in February 2017.
She describes the letter as a "rumour"because she never received a copy.
Ms. Katatumba has vowed to continue serving the Pakistani people because their Nairobi ambassador "doesn't have the say to open or close a consulate" saying "the president of Pakistan who opened it, will close it".
How it started
Ms. Katatumba says the war between the Pakistan High Commission in Nairobi and Consulate in Kampala started about 20 years ago when the country's then President Pervez Musharraf appointed her father of Christian faith as Honorary consul.
She says the move was aimed at enhancing relations among Pakistani people living in Uganda by appointing a "good Christian" who would serve them better "beyond their differences and divisions".
"When my father was appointed by President Gen. Pervez Musharraf years ago; he was mainly appointed because he was a Christian who would see past the differences and divisions of the Paskistani people. They are extremely divided and that is why President Mushraf insisted that a good Christian would be better serving people"
