One of the Justices delivering their verdict on the age limit petition which was heard in April has ruled that the raid on Parliament by security operatives was justifiable but done inhumanely.
Several opposition MPs including Betty Nambooze, Gerard Karuhanga, Allan Ssewanyana and Robert Kyagulanyi were arrested within the chambers of Parliament during a debate over the amendment of Article 102b last year that sought to abolish age limit and increase the tenure of MPs effective this term from 5 to 7 years.
Justice Cheborion Barishaki on Thursday said security operatives "uses excessive force and treatment of MPs was inhuman".
"MPs ought to respect the speaker and heed to her orders. I find it pertinent to consider powers given to the speaker should be respected,” Justice Barishaki ruled while justifying the Speaker's mandate to suspend some MPs
The Constitutional Court justice also ruled that the suspension of the MPs didn't affect the outcome of results of the debate where majority MPs agreed to abolish the presidential age limit and increase their tenure in Parliament
Ruling is underway.
