Police leadership led by IGP Okoth Ochola has promoted Commonwealth medalists Joshua Cheptegei, Stella Chesang and Mercyline Chelangat with promotions, a day after returning from Australia.
Cheptegei, Chesang were promoted from the rank of Special Police Constables (SPC) to Inspector of Police (IP) and Chelangat was promoted to to the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP).
The preferment comes after the trio won gold and bronze medals at the Commonwealth games where Uganda managed to get six medals in all competitions.
Their salary has been increased to UGX500,000 from UGX270,000 -- Cheptegei who won two gold medals, also received a 'token' of UGX10m.
He had tweeted that he is "no longer serving in the force" after Uganda Police Force posted on Twitter congratulating him of winning the second gold medal.
Team Uganda returned yesterday from the competitions in Gold Coast and were received in a heroic style by the First Lady, also Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.
