A group of high earning government officials has left residents of Kibiga village in Kiboga District in shock after donating only UGX45,000 (about $12).
The group included a gender minister, 13 other Members of Parliament on the Parliamentary Committee on Social Protection Grant (SAGE) and other area officials.
The money was given to an 80-year-old woman, Teresa Namuli, who takes care of over 10 orphaned grandchildren, privately owned newspaper Daily Monitor reports.
State Minister for Gender Peace Mutuuzo also gifted the woman with two kilograms of sugar and loaves of bread.
Namuli told the delegation who had visited the area to inspect the progress of the SAGE program that her grand children are helpless and need to be supported with school fees.
Early this year, Kiboga District hosted a fete organised by the ruling party to celebrate the passing of the controversial Constitution Amendment Bill, 2017, which sought to abolish presidential age limit.
Meanwhile, last week, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga refuted reports that MPs were hatching a secret plan to increase their salaries by more than 100% to a tune of UGX23m per month -- same MPs abolished themselves from paying taxes on their allowances.
