Mutua's win was initially contested at the High Court which ruled in his favour in a ruling delivered in February.

His opponent, Wavinya Ndeti, moved to the Court of Appeal which on Friday nullified the gubernatorial results of August 8.

In the ruling, the appellate court faulted the IEBC returning officer for using an excel spreadsheet to record results instead of Form 37A.

Mutua was, however, absolved of any wrongdoing in the election.
