Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has lost his gubernatorial seat after the Court of Appeal ruled that his election on August 8 did not meet the constitutional standards.

Mutua's win was initially contested at the High Court which ruled in his favour in a ruling delivered in February.
In the ruling, the appellate court faulted the IEBC returning officer for using an excel spreadsheet to record results instead of Form 37A.
Mutua was, however, absolved of any wrongdoing in the election.
