The babies were born prematurely at 7 months but Shiru wa GP disclosed that at that time it didn’t bother her for she felt that God had finally granted her wish but unfortunately after one-and-a-half months in the incubator, one of the twins the boy passed on.

The Gospel singer later got a chest infection and got admitted to the Nairobi Women's Hospital whilst her daughter was still in the hospital.

Medical bills

The double admission accrued a staggering amount of more than 4 million and it took the help of Gukena FM presenter Njogu wa Njoroge who was then at Kameme to clear the bill. This is after he held a fundraising on Radio which had Uhuru Kenyatta donate 1 Million.

2 years after the really painful and difficult experience, the Gospel singer has let fans into that difficult chapter.

Speaking to Inooro’s Jeff Kuria, Shiru said “It was a bad experience because I didn’t expect it. Its one of those situations when you have tried so hard then you finally have something good and then the devil snatches it from your hands. I had tried conceiving for 9 years, heading to 10 when God blessed me with twins. I was very excited even though they did not make it to term as they were born 2 months premature. At that point, I didn’t even ask people to pray with me as I knew God had already blessed me in a big way. It (the loss of my baby and my admission) was not only challenging emotionally but also financially as the bill had accumulated up to Shs4.5 million so I had to reach out for financial aid which wasn’t easy.”

Song inspiration

The experience inspired her song ‘Irema’ whose description reads “Everybody in life has a scar, we see them and remember the occurrences but the scars cannot stop us from overcoming the situations and truly serving God.”
